ANDAMOOKA DUKES BOTTLE HOUSE MOTEL & ANDAMOOKA OPAL SHOWROOM
We are pleased to be able to offer the following package to all visitors
travelling our state.
Dukes Tour Package
Andamooka Opal Experience
Andamooka
is a comfortable 6-hour drive from Adelaide and getting you right into
the outback in your first day of travel if you choose. Interesting spots
along the way include Wadlata and the Arid lands gardens in Port Augusta,
the Heritage and Rocket Centre in Woomera and the New mining
town of Roxby Downs.
Arrive in Andamooka in time to take in the amazing sight of this higgledy-piggledy
frontier town, which still displays the original pioneer miners shacks
and dugouts. Some wonderful examples of making do as they
had to in the early years.
Book into your comfortable room at Dukes Bottlehouse Motel and then do
the two pub crawl to check out your dinner options. Eat at
the famous Tuckerbox Restaurant or take in the ambiance of the Opal Hotel.
Have a chat with the opal miners at the end of a hard days yakka
and see if they have been lucky!!
Have
a leisurely breakfast at Dukes then do a Tagalong tour with Peter,
our own in-house miner, to a working opal mine. All that is to be known
of the quest for finding that big opal parcel will be revealed, and you
can try your luck at finding your own king stone. Come back
into town, have a bite to eat, and then take a humorous and informative
local town tour of our historic dugouts and an underground mine. If opting
for a 2nd nights stay take a drive and visit the longest salt lake in
the southern hemisphere, Lake Torrens. (Four Wheel Drive vehicles recommended)
Dont forget to spend some time exploring Andamooka, visiting the
showrooms (all have something different to offer) and do your own historic
walk.
Join us on the patio for a drink or two before checking out the Other
place for an evening meal. (Or feel free to use the barbeque plate in
our Sunken Garden).
This package can be done in one day, but depending on your time of arrival
and how rushed you want to be we would recommend a minimum of two days
with option of a third night to visit the Olympic Dam Copper Mine and
Roxby Down Township. This offers a unique contrast of an Old mining Town
and a New Mining town. Tours of the Olympic Dam Complex are available
at on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays only and go from 9 to 10.30am.
Cost is a gold coin donation for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
