TRY MINING:
This can be done in numerous ways from noodling (fossicking) to tunneling and open cut
mining.
NOODLING -- All you
need for noodling is a pair of sharp eyes plenty of patience and a tube of sun block-fly
repellent. TOOLS to give you a fair chance , gloves, hammer with saftey glasses, pick and
shovel and sieve.
For all of the next you require MONEY a Precious Stones Prospecting Permit - PSPP- and this
can be gained at PIRSA or if you don't know what that is it is THE MINES DEPARTMENT . Proof
of identity is required.
TUNNELING -- TOOLS
and EQUIPMENT for this type, rope, ladder, windlass or winch for hauling dirt, lighting,
pick, shovel, jackhammer and bucket of sweat. The best part, a screw driver to ease out
your OPAL and an empty bucket to hold it in, this can also be a thimble just depends on
how much opal you find.
OPEN CUT MINING --
A lot more MONEY, a bull dozer or excavator to dig your hole, pick shovel, bucket and plenty
of sunblock-flyrepellent. You have the best part as well, a screw driver to ease out your
OPAL and an empty bucket to hold it in, this can also be a thimble just depends on how much
opal you find.
If you don't have any of the above equipment you will be able to find it all in Andamooka,
except the money! you have to bring your own.
